“Cristiano Ronaldo fan boy” Alejandro Garnacho has responded to the accusation that he “ignored” Lionel Messi during the Copa America final.

Garnacho is now an international team-mate of eight-time Ballon d’Or winner Messi, having previously worked with Ronaldo at Old Trafford. There were suggestions during the recent Copa final that the youngster was ignoring his illustrious colleague when both found themselves on the bench – with Messi suffering an unfortunate ankle injury during a dramatic clash with Colombia.
Garnacho has responded to a social media post in which he was branded “a proper Ronaldo fan boy” by pointing out that he celebrated with Messi – who had a smile on his face and was clearly not looking to give the United starlet the cold shoulder – after a 1-0 win secured another continental crown for Argentina.
Messi and Garnacho were not ignoring each other during the closing stages of an epic final in the United States, they merely had other things on their mind as a keenly-fought contest played out in front of them. Once the final whistle went, the Albiceleste squad was fully united.
